Darren - you'd get "flat-tops" (not a phrase I use btw) if there were
consecutive 0dB samples...representing clipping or hard-limiting at
0dB.

Compression as you know is technically different, since provided we
stay away from consecutive 0dB samples we are only "compressed" and not
hard-limited/clipped.


I'm still trying to get my head around the way that Audacity renders
24-bit files (of any sample rate) as they all look very odd to me...
