Linn and some other folks have true 24/96 downloads. A good bit of Classical stuff is avilable on 24/96, then Jazz, then Pop. There are a couple of companies "claiming" to sell 24/96 or "HD Downloads" which are actually just Red Book copies bought from the big houses. I download a 24/96 and it played on my SB3 before SC had SOX. I had been listening to it on the Transporter and accidently queued it up on the SB3. The tags and bit rate showed it to be 16/44.1 as well as showing it was from one of the big labels and not the Download store. Just recycled by them, marked up, and passed off as 24/96. So just be careful from where you buy. As for me, there are certain songs I can tell the difference between them. Pop/Rock not so much, its more like there is less edge and a darker background. To me, Jazz and Classical are worth 24/96 on well recorded and engineered albums. The important thing to remember is the 24/96 enables a great recording, but at the same time it can't fix a poor recording and in my opinion just makes the faults show even more. I think the large range covered and volume differences on single tracks of Classical and Jazz are the reason they sound better when 24/96 is used on well recorded albums. -- iPhone *iPhone* Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono's, Vandersteen Quatro, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1 Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Kitchen: Squeezebox BOOM Bedroom: SB3, GFR-700HD, Thiel 2.3, Second Boom Home Office: SB3, NAD C370, two VSM-1 Home Gym: SB3, Parasound Vamp v.3, Thiel PowerPoint 1.2 House Portable: SB3, Audioengine A5 Thunderbird: Duet, Mac Mini Expedition: SB3, ToughBook ------------------------------------------------------------------------ iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63908 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
