Linn and some other folks have true 24/96 downloads. A good bit of
Classical stuff is avilable on 24/96, then Jazz, then Pop. There are a
couple of companies "claiming" to sell 24/96 or "HD Downloads" which are
actually just Red Book copies bought from the big houses. I download a
24/96 and it played on my SB3 before SC had SOX. I had been listening to
it on the Transporter and accidently queued it up on the SB3. The tags
and bit rate showed it to be 16/44.1 as well as showing it was from one
of the big labels and not the Download store. Just recycled by them,
marked up, and passed off as 24/96. So just be careful from where you
buy.

As for me, there are certain songs I can tell the difference between
them. Pop/Rock not so much, its more like there is less edge and a
darker background. To me, Jazz and Classical are worth 24/96 on well
recorded and engineered albums. The important thing to remember is the
24/96 enables a great recording, but at the same time it can't fix a
poor recording and in my opinion just makes the faults show even more. I
think the large range covered and volume differences on single tracks of
Classical and Jazz are the reason they sound better when 24/96 is used
on well recorded albums.
