Phil, turn the volume control up and any amp will clip/run out of
juice/distort/collapse/turn its protection circuitry on/fuse/melt -
whatever you call it. Obviously, by definition, they shouldn't clip at
rated power, and a decent manufacturer will rate their amps
conservatively, so you might get a little more headroom, but when
someone kicks that bass drum there's no way round the requirement for
power. If 20w/ch cut the mustard, why do Linn produce amps of many times
that power?
