One thing I'd try before changing the pre is disabling volume control on
the Transporter.

All tests I've made so far with my TP on various preamps (from 300 to
2500€, transistors or tubes) showed that there was a huge quality loss
when the volume control wasn't disabled, even if the volume was set at
100%.

Although some people in these forums are skeptical about this,
everybody I demoed the TP with or without volume control witnessed the
fact it sounds pretty poor / flat when the volume control is left on.

FWIW, in my experience, the TP didn't need any burn-in, and sounded
right out of the box like it does now, thousands of playing hours later.
