I used to do this sort of thing all the time, and still have a SPDIF coax between my stereo rig in the basement and my surround rig in the living room.... It was more for casual listening, or parties, but whatever the reason worked great. Having put Transporters in both racks, I haven't used that SPDIF cable for a long time now! And given what a 30 ft optical cable is likely to cost, I really wonder if a second hand SB3 wouldn't be both cheaper, and more useful long term...
