Even if you've got attenuation set (by whatever means), you have to be
careful with test tones. Music doesn't contain that much energy at high
frequencies, so tweeters have quite low power handling capability. If
you play a high frequency signal at full volume, then chances are that
your tweeters will blow.

(This is also the reason that using *underpowered* amps is the easiest
way to kill speakers - you turn it up trying to get the required volume
and the amp clips. Clipped waveforms contain serious amounts of high
frequencies).
