One of my Transporters blew the switching supply for the display's, but I've never had an issue with the analog supplies. While it's certainly possible for a transformer to fail, in my tech experience, it's much more common to be something else. As iPhone suggests, if you've no experience troubleshooting and fixing gear, let someone else have a look. The fact that the transformer is hot could easily be something shorted on it's output, and only be a symptom, not a cause. Personally, I would never order a transformer on suspicion only...
