I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Touch's ability to play
24bit/88.2kHz & 96kHz files. Based on that feature I would buy the
Touch. Add in the following benefits and I feel that getting a Touch is
a no-brainer:

1) The Touch has a very good DAC and its analog outputs are on par with
many much more expensive CD players.

2) Does your older Sony CD player even have a digital output? And if
you are already running Squeezebox Server why do you even need a CD
player - just rip the CD into your Squeezebox music library.

3) Speaking of Squeezebox music library, buying a Touch means that, as
you stated, you can then use your existing Squeezebox to somewhere else
and have access to your music.

4) Once you have the Touch you can decide if an external will make all
much of a difference and if you feel that you need one you can always
purchase one at later date once you've saved up the money.

Personally I feel that reasons #1&3 are the most compelling:

#1 - hi-rez music & #3 - access to your music without having to move
CDs around.
