I've read about studies that show we're not that sensitive to phase.  I
could try to find a reference.  

Most speakers are not designed for time coherence (with a few current
exceptions, e.g. Vandersteen, Green Mountain Audio, Thiel.)  You can
see this if you peruse the speaker measurements at Stereophile.  Most
are very far from having the time coherent triangle shaped step
response.
