As an engineer, I'd suspect you understand there is always a larger context when considering the question of blind tests. For the home consumer assembling a system for their own entertainment, there is certainly a strong case to be made for going for whatever helps subjective perception - be it blue cords or magic rocks. The problem is the non-audio subjectivities that send you into a swoon may doing nothing for someone else and have the opposite effect on yet another. However, unless outright fraud is taking place, I'd say "go for it" if blue cords are your thing. However, there are researchers, product designers, manufacturers and others who have an interest in determining the limits of audibility in human perception. That's an impossible task unless they find a way to keep all those pesky non-audio subjective factors from interfering. Some type of blind testing is a necessity for them. There are perhaps even a few consumers out there who like the thought of buying an audio component for its sound. They might be attracted to the idea of improving their understanding the point of separation between what they really hear and what they subconsciously imagine. What I find amusing are not the people who advocate subjective listening, but rather those who do so with an attitude that a component's sound is the -only- thing that is affecting their senses. Somehow, they, among all, have completely mastered their human subconscious. Anyway, an always interesting subject for commentary. -- mlsstl ------------------------------------------------------------------------ mlsstl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9598 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88345 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
