Good post adamdea " 1 16/44 is *almost certainly* "good enough" (a concept which is unfortunately anathema to audiophiles) 2 *if it isn't* then 24/96 is way over the requirement assuming a generous margin for error. "
This I why I actually get 24/96 recordings of good sounding records when available but wont bother for more . When contemplating these things . Dont forget to distinguish between recording and producing and the carrier format to the customer , the best sounding CD's are certainly done from 24/96 or 24/192 masters then down-sampled with correct dither , I can see from your post that you do get that. But it is often forgotten. Analog is not hirez (now someone is going to find some rare exceptional direct to 2 track 78ips from the last days of analog to prove me wrong, but most recordings are not done that way) . Now the remastering may very well be done in hirez and sound very very good indeed, but due to intrisinic limits in the source material point 1 is going to be certainly with no room for almost. -- Mnyb -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub.
