I don't know about you but to me the present fascination with all things
HOFFMAN seems very similar to the past fascination with all things Harry
Pearson (from the Absolute Sound) and his ridiculous "Super Discs"
lists. Audiophile garbage for people who don't know how to think and
listen for themselves.

But to get down to the business ends of things (hint: MONEY) Steve
Hoffman, just like the folks over at Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs and at
other companies specializing in high quality remasterings and reissues
of SOMEONE else's recordings, are allowed to reissue only those
recordings which the original owner has deemed not the effort. Is every
recording reissued really not worth the effort, absolutely not since the
real reason these recordings is more about money than artistic merit, so
there are plenty of audiophile reissues for very good recordings that
just didn't make much money. On the other hand, there are plenty of piss
poor recordings by well known artists that the original owner gladly
licenses for reissue because it is an easy way to make a few bucks. What
all this means is that while Steve Hoffman and the other audiophile
reissue companies often do a great job of getting the best possible
sound from a recording, all too often their efforts are completely
wasted on substandard recordings.
