Yes but some albums are deliberately more compressed and EQd on CD, for the "mainstream", whilst the vinyl is not, for the "audiophiles". Market segmentation, see? I hear Nevermind is an example of this.
So sometimes it's a matter of undoing what shouldn't have been done to the original CD mastering.
