Did you seriously engage in such a test before buying that Benchmark DAC? Nevermind that it isn't much of an upgrade over a Duet anyhow, but how would you know if you could hear a difference or not? If you aren't sure if the Benchmark sounds better, then I can see where scientific confirmation would allow you to enjoy it more.
