I started using a TacT room correction system about 2000, including the
preamp/processor and digital amps. Room correction became the one thing
I would not be without. The TacT system allowed 9 presets for different
correction curves. After much experimenting, I eventually settled on 2
or 3 that I used for different music...rock, acoustic jazz and
classical. They were all set to address the fundamental room issues in
the bass region, but with small tweaks to satisfy my particular
preferences. Dr. Uli Brueggemann was a regular contributor to the TacT
forum, contributing his free "Good Vibrations" software which added
additional features to the TacT program. Uli then went on to create his
Acourate system, and he has extensive experience.
I had to change my system a couple of years ago to address my new
dedicated home theatre/music room and after much searching went with an
Anthem pre/pro with their ARC multi channel room correction. It works
well but is not nearly as flexible as something like Acourate or the now
discontinued TacT.
Given your interests and tech background, I'm sure you will spend many
hours playing with the program!
