Iru Bhai,
What layout you want to use in Ubuntu for typing Bangla? I suggest you to use Scim input method with m17n library. Just open Synaptic package manager and search for Scim. Select all the things you can see and install them. After that restart X server or restart computer. Now if you open any GTK application, you'll find SCIM running on the tuskbar. But let me know what layout you want to use. m17n library of Unijoy for Scim is ready in my box and in m17n CVS. So if you want to use UniJoy then I can supply you the layout file.

are you using launchpad in ubuntu? I can't type bengali well (ok, not at all!) but I can copy and paste from the alternative suggestion. I should be able to get a lot done with xxx-deprecated-do-not-use- series if i can be a "translator" for it.
