No one who came up the tower really wanted to stay too long in the heat. Weather: The first cloud of the day was spotted around 1:30pm local time; a tiny little cumulus cloud, many kilometers to the north.. Winds very easterly and southeasterly all day, with just a hint of north in the early morning (but that didn't last). Raptor Observations: A relatively slow day overall, although in comparison to all the other species, it was a decent day for Northern Harriers. Only one small kettle of 26 Broad-winged Hawks was seen. Non-raptor Observations: Six shorebird species were recorded from the hawk tower today; both Black-bellied and American Golden-Plovers were heard, as well as Killdeer - additionally, Dunlin, Solitary Sandpiper, and Greater Yellowlegs were all seen and heard. Today was also the first day where "Myrtle" Yellow-rumped Warblers were the most common warbler. For the full eBird checklist: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S39374151 There were 40 Monarchs counted migrating today. Predictions: East and southeast winds predicted, but it looks like we may get at least a few more clouds!! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Sean Jenniskens (seanjennisk...@hotmail.com) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
