According to the X output, the driver has recognised it as "ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics". I've got no experience with those, but it's not exactly bleeding-edge hardware - I'd expect it to be pretty well supported. I'd guess something's not right with either Mesa or libdrm builds, or possibly the combination of versions of the two... Simon.
