OK, Mrs. Bartlett was being interviewed on some TV talk show, and she
was asked how she felt about losing her license to practice medicine.
She replied that she was just a wife and mother now. Mrs. Ritchie
(sp?), wife of the Republican presidential candidate, told reporters
that she (Mrs. Ritchie) felt that being a wife and mother was the
greatest job she could do. Later, Mrs. Bartlett was giving a speech and
some women wearing aprons and carrying rolling pins came and stood in
the back.
All of this has happened off camera, mind you, and we hear about it in
conversations among CJ, Bruno (the media guy), and Bartlett, who is
annoyed at his wife becoming a target of the Republican campaign. Near
the end of the episode, Mrs. Bartlett returns to the White House and
tells her husband that she is sorry for blowing it, and he tells her
its all right, but he is still clearly annoyed at the Republicans.
I said it was uninteresting because most of it all happened off camera,
but now that I think about it, it is probably the beginning of an arc
revolving around Abby Bartlett's complicity in covering up her
husband's MS, and that will be a key point in the Republican campaign.
That might not be a bad thing for viewers, since we'll see more of
Stockard Channing.
