Several community groups and individuals and organizations are
joining to boycott the Miami Herald and New Times for the constant stream of
sleazy journalism.
The boycott is being kicked off with a protest at
the Miami Herald building, one block east of Biscayne Blvd. and NE 14th St.,
on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 beginning at 8:00AM, culminating with a press
conference at 10:00AM at the same location. A protest at the New Times
will be held on Thursday with the time to be announced during the Herald
protest.
Protest organizer Leroy Jones is calling on the residents of
Miami Dade County "Don't Buy the Miami Herald" and "Don't Read the New
Times." In addition, organizers are urging businesses not to advertise in
the papers and for the community not to support businesses that advertise in
them.
