CAMPAIGN PLATFORM
"Reclaiming and Rebuilding our Community"

1.       INTEGRITY AND TRUST

    • Restore trust in City Government by being a woman of my word.
    • Restore accountability and accessibility by establishing district office hours at NET offices (Overtown, Liberty City and Little Haiti)
    • Make access to city services more customer friendly

2.      HOUSING

    • Develop workforce/affordable housing for ownership and renters in the district
    • Provide funds for the rehabilitation of single family and multi-family housing to restore a sense of neighborhood pride
    • Propose Ordinance that will require Inclusionary Zoning for all new developments in district including low income, workforce and affordable housing
    • Provide technical assistance to developers and contractors to assist them through the permitting process
    • Affordable Housing Trust
    • Recruit minority vendors to e included on the City of Miami Vendor’s List
    • Work to increase the amount of goods and services procured by the City of Miami

3.      ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT/JOB CREATION

    • Provide Mom and Pop Grants to small businesses in the district to assist with façade treatment, customer service training, license and insurance, etc.
    • Support the revitalization of Cultural Commercial Corridors, such as:
      • MLK Historic District
      • 7th Avenue Afro Caribbean District
      • Little Haiti District
      • Overtown Folklife Village
      • Riverwalk District
    • Provide incentives to encourage businesses to relocate to district
    • Promote business development
    • Improve Infrastructure for future development
    • Require all Capital Improvement and Development Projects within district that are funded with public dollars to provide jobs for community residents
    • Provide funding to support Job Training and Internship Programs with emphasis on single parents
    • Partner with Labor Unions, CBO’s, Technical Institutions to increase Apprenticeship Programs in the area of Construction

4.      SENIORS (Taking Care of our Seniors)

    • Seniors 1st Initiative (24-hour Hotline)
    • More senior housing in district
    • Food Bank Program
    • Develop emergency shelter for seniors

6.      REDUCE CRIME

    • Improve police response time
    • Support Crime Prevention Programs that focus on the root causes of crime such as illiteracy, poverty, and unemployment
    • Provide Neighborhood Assistance grants to Homeowners Associations, Citizens Crime Watch, Citizens on Patrol, etc., to provide crime watch programs in their neighborhoods
    • Increase neighborhood lighting to deter criminal activity 
    • Enforce Noise Ordinances

7.      YOUTH

    • Establish corporate partnerships to adopt Zone Schools which will provide mentorship, internship and financial support to improve the quality of learning
    • Provide support to youth centers, optimist clubs, after-school programs and leadership academies in the district

8.      CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL PRESERVATION

    • Support historical and cultural sites for the preservation of our heritage and neighborhoods such as MLK Blvd, Lyric Theatre-Overtown, Carver Theatre-Liberty City, Masjid-Historic Mosque in Liberty City, Buena Vista Historical Neighborhood, and the Caribbean Marketplace in Little Haiti.
    • Develop a Heritage Council through the Greater Miami Conventions and Visitors Bureau that will market historical and cultural sites
    • NEIGHBORHOOD ENCHANCEMENT
      • Create community reward program to decrease illegal dumping
