Nikki Giovanni

     A program celebrating Black History Month  and featuring author and poet
Nikki Giovanni will begin at 6 p.m.,  Thursday, Feb. 2, in Bailey Hall on
Broward Community College’s A. Hugh  Adams Central Campus in Davie, 3501 S.W.
Davie  Blvd.

Titled “Nikki  Giovanni and the Harlem Renaissance,” the program will
feature readings  from Giovanni, other poets and cultural dance from community
dancers. 

“I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for students  to meet an author and
poet as renowned as she is,” said Adrian Carter,  Central’s student life
director. Giovanni is author of Racism 101 and more  than a dozen volumes of poetry,
including Black Feeling Black Talk, Cotton  Candy On A Rainy Day, The
Selected Poems of Nikki Giovanni, and Love  Poems.

     An English professor at Virginia Tech  University, she is the recipient
of an NAACP Image Award, holds the  Langston Hughes Medal for Outstanding
Poetry and has been named woman of  the year by Mademoiselle, Ladies' Home
Journal, and Ebony magazines.

     The program, co-sponsored by BCC and Florida  Atlantic University, is
free to BCC and FAU students and employees, and $2  for the general public
