Hello Benjamin.

If ddrescue finds one first error, my hard disk will stop working or

I know this does not sound very good. Some live has to be in this
hard disk, because other partitions on the same hard disk and other
file systems on the same partition can be read without problems.

I cannot restart ddrescue with the same files, because it "thinks"
all the rest fo the hard disk would be erroneous.

What will be the best way, to configure ddrescue to use the same
files again, maybe -X --exit-on-error?

Yes, but if you want to resume the rescue (instead of starting anew), you will also need to pass --try-again to ddrescue the first time that you use --exit-on-error.

I want to give it a try and start in the middle of the file system.
What do I have to tell ddrescue to start from the middle?

Use the --input-position option.

I already tried forward and reverse (see below).

Reading forward and then reverse, both with --exit-on-error, should delimit the troubling area. Unless there are several troubling areas, in which case you may need to delimit each of them using --input-position.

Best regards,
Antonio.
