You just made my point with those 2 sentences.

Americas prosperity in the coming decades will be dependent on our
international standing and perceived good will:

We'll need the help of other nations to secure Iran, Iraq, Syria,
Hezbollah, Hamas, and Russia.

We'll need to good will of other nations to control energy prices and
create profitable trade deals.

So domestic priorities are directly linked to international ones.
