the thought process is that full lips are a sign of health and youth. (as is tight and clear skin)
unfortunately, if a little is good, people think a lot is better. so we are getting not-too-bright people exaggerating beyond all reasonableness. a little like the huge sneakers in bill and ted's excellent adventure on future bill and future ted.
