If it is a document-based program, the easiest method is to set up your Info.plist (generally configured through Xcode) to support various document types (in the role of "editor" for these types). Creating a "droplet"-type program shouldn't be much more difficult -- you'd need to set your program to be a "viewer" instead of an "editor."

I and others could use a little more information, I suspect. What is your scenario?
