This should be an easy one, but I am just not seeing it...
In the sample code found at:
http://developer.apple.com/samplecode/PhotoSearch/index.html
The background color of the rows containing the disclosure triangles
are drawn with a gray background.
How was that gray color provided and drawn to the NSOutlineView?
