And just to be clear, imageWithContentsOfFile: vs imageNamed: won't save you any memory per image, it only prevents the image from being put into the image cache, which may help your performance in other ways.

Dave Camp's suggestions are probably a good starting point. Only load images you need to display, and if they don't need to be as large as they are, shrink them (when creating the content, not after loading them).
