I haven't run into this in such a long time that I completely forgot this could still occur. While I do wish it wasn't necessary to do the cast, it does solve the problem.
So this works as expected: AMWorkflow* workflow = [ (AMWorkflow*)[AMWorkflow alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:fileURL error:&createError]; Thanks for the memory jog.
