Maxwell Guo edited comment on CASSANDRA-18934 at 11/4/23 3:01 PM:
------------------------------------------------------------------

I think we may need to have some repair discussions, because I did a simple POC
test, doing skip replay and skip data on the system table data columns in the
commitlog, and found that the code that affected the code codebase of
de/serialize data, I feel the introduction of this kind of hardcode makes
people feel uncomfortable, so it seems that simply skipping useless data is not
very elegant.

And besides, the problem may be more complicated. If we can only make code
modifications on the current version not the downgrade version, it seems that
we cannot simply skip the original log replay .

> We are required to support 5.0 downgrading to 4.1 as a migration step, but we
> don’t have tests to show this is working… I wrote a quick test to make sure a
> change we needed in Accord wouldn’t block the downgrade and see that we fail
> right now.
