I'm 100% agreed - I wasn't making an recommendations about where it belonged, rather a query as to whether the thought had been entertained.

I believe the concensus is that once there's some substantial(ish) amount of code in these functions, they should be in a different package. So rather than bog down commons-math with it (I see there's a GREAT deal of activity with it already), I will submit a proposal.

+1 on the idea of having these classes available for use, +1 on *temporarily* adding this to commons-math, but -1 to adding them to MathUtils (this code should be stored in a separate contrib source tree). Basic Financial utilities would add desired functionality, but in the "long term" - specific areas of application should not be a part of commons-math. I'm not saying this will never be the case, read on...
