I like this approach. While you're at it, a "default" logo like the ones that you have been putting together using gimp (with the text somehow "dynamic," i.e. editable) would a nice thing to make available.
It is in CVS already. In the spirit of OS projects helping other OS projects, the file is in GIMP 1.2 format (.xcf). The file is located in "src/media" for a few projects - try Codec or CLI. To create a logo in this style, just:
1. copy this file to your project's directory. 1.5. (Get a copy of GIMP). 2. Open the image in GIMP,
3. right click and take a look at the layers. 4. Remove both the text layer and the drop shadow layer.
5. Make a new text layer witht he project specific text - Times Italic anywehre between 48 and 56 point.
6. Then, Script-Fu -> Drop Shadow...
