Update: not the best news to give....but here it is.... Sacramento's first community garden 30 years old, has been given orders to remove all personal items by nov 18...high levels of contaminents have been found...the site will be pad locked for non-use till it is developed planned for spring 03.
The State owned land is planned to be used for some apts, condos, & small shops... a portion of the garden (approx 1/3) will be cleaned (soil removed and new soil imported) and still remain a garden for the residents of the condos and some for the neighborhood....gardeners want the developer to do a human health risk assessment. Gardeners also looking at other options including lawsuits. Will keep you updated....
