well, to use your own file completely, remove these two lines from the desert_routes.rb file
connect 'sitemap.xml', :controller => "sitemap", :action => "index", :format => 'xml' connect 'sitemap', :controller => "sitemap", :action => "index" I'm not sure what the proper CE way of removing lines from the desert_routes file is other than just removing them. this may cause issues when you upgrade in the future. Your sitemap.xml will then need to live inside of the public folder.
