In effect, when you cut the glass, you will find an almost black screen. But as far as I know, that is a phosphor film coated on the internal side of the screen. I think you can clean it using a cloth, or maybe a wet cloth. I think you'll have no problem in removing most of the phosphor. But perhaps it won't be safe to put water and fishes in direct contact with that surface: probably, some small quantities of phosphor will remain on the glass and will contaminate the water where the fishes live. One possible solution could be to fix a transparent plastic film in that side of the glass, but it can be pretty difficult to get rid of the wrinkles... I think all these problems are the reason because all MacAquariums are made without using the Mac's screen. Other good reason to do that is to save the working CRT to replace a broken one from other compact...
