If you need the patched Apple HD SC, email me offlist. I can provide it to
you.

I'd suggest you to start from here, as AFAIK Apple HD SC utility ussually
shows all hard drives, even if they aren't partitioned/formatted with the
Macintosh schema (and for what you say, your drive does have an MBR
partition table). If there aren't termination (voodoo?) problems, you sould
be able to "see" the drive and partition and format it without a hassle if
you put it in the external case.
