Are you – or do you know – a motivated student interested in applying for the Master’s course in Technical Art History at the University of Amsterdam?
The UvA is the first university in the Netherlands, and one of the few in the world, to offer a course dedicated to TAH. This new branch of art history focuses on an artwork as a physical object: it studies the materials, techniques and production methods that went into its making, as well as artist's reflections on the process of creation. In a small group, students work hands-on with a wide variety of art objects, using state-of-the-art analytical equipment to examine their construction and material composition. In addition to academic courses on the history of art technology and applied science, the course includes excursions, workshops, and making historical reconstructions. We are searching for a small group of Dutch and international students from various backgrounds (art history, fine arts, archaeology, science, etc.). The course will begin in September 2017 and will be offered every two years within the Conservation & Restoration department. The language of instruction is English. The application deadline is 1 February, 2017, and we encourage interested students to look at the application guidelines soon to see how they can prepare. You can contact the course coordinators directly if you have any questions. We will have an information session in Amsterdam on Thursday 12 January, 16:00–17:00, Ateliergebouw, Hobbemastraat 22, Room B.
