Hi, Well I got my coupe flying again! Everything ran great. I followed
the
procedures in a 1940's manual for ground break in so after 5 hours ground
running I was pretty optimistic. Temperatures were normal and there was
possibly a bit more power. One thing that I have found for sure - you
MUST
run the carb heat just before taking off if you have a Stromberg. It is
no
good to heat it during a runup then wait 5 minutes for clearance to take
off.
My engine will almost always fail to produce the normal power after
taxiing
out if I do not run carb heat for 15 seconds just before takeoff. It will
make
around 2050 whereas it makes about 2150 or more after running heat.
Heating
it at 1700 reveals a drop and then a slight rise as expected. Glen Ward
