China sells Sweden 'invisible' army wear

HONG KONG - China has produced 'invisible' military raincoats for the Swedish
army that cannot be detected by infrared surveillance satellites and so
provide an effective camouflage for soldiers in field operations.

The military apparel was developed by a Wenzhou company in Zhejiang province
and a research agency of the Chinese Defence Ministry, the Ming Pao Daily
News reported yesterday.

The first order was placed by a Swedish trade office in Beijing after the
Chinese company announced the launch of the product on its web site.

It subsequently received an order for more than 53,000 pieces from the
Swedish army, which found the raincoat effective. This initial order is worth
up to 8 million yuan (S$1.7 million).
