I have a heart valve condition similar to this one with the mitral
valve and so does my youngest son. Very common and usually never
amounts to much. I have read and discussed with various
specialists and my son has, too, including the entire cardiology
dept. at UAB. Apparently, like a heart murmur, it seldom causes
problems at all but can cause blood to leak or flow backwards
through the valve and one can develop endocarditis more easily.

sudden death associated with it as with the basketball players. I
think mitral valve prolapse is the more common name for it.

So, you never know, but I tend to think this was one of those cases
for athletes are the ones who most often get into trouble with
this. Not that I want any politician to get off the hook easily!
God forbid! But this does not look suspicious to me because I just
hope it does not happen to me or my son.<starts checking pulse>
Lots of times people do not even know they have it and do not
notice a periodic increase in their pulse. There is also a
psychological component to the rapid heartbeat sometimes as well as
the actual physical formation of the valve.
Could be this guy has just had a gut full of the political scene
and wants out but I would look elsewhere if suspicious of his early
retirement. This woman's family seemed aware that she had this
health problem and she seemed to have a good marriage and there
were no rumors but, as I said, we don't want a politician to escape
without careful scrutiny in a case where anything this out of the
ordinary happens. I think we should keep out an eye for anything
else suspicious concerning this Scarborough. At least let them know
they are being watched in regard to inappropriate involvement with
young employees and interns.
