-Caveat Lector- Interesting...I have my local news on as I'm on the Internet, and they're discussing getting flu shots this year...
They're really pushing EVERYONE getting a flu shot this year...and made a comment that in past years there were shortages of the flu vaccine, but that this year there is no shortage...mention was made that plans for the amount of needed vaccine are determined at least 9 months in advance, so one has to wonder WHY there was always a shortage in past years but strangely there is no shortage this year...so instead of restricting shots to 'the usual suspects' (e.g., the elderly, chronically ill, etc.), there is supposedly enough for all of the general population... There was much stress put on how 'safe' the vaccine is, how it will prevent flu, and that if it doesn't it will 'definitely' make it milder if someone DOES get sick, and that if someone does NOT get the flu shot that they will get very sick with the flu... As I mentioned in a prior post, a few years ago my coworkers bought a similar line of propaganda and duly lined up and got the shots our employer offered, while I demurred... A few weeks later, everyone who had gotten the shot became deathly ill with the flu, every one of them who got sick ended up being out of work for at least 2 days if not more... While I ended up with a bad cold; stuffy head and drippy nose and coughing when it moved down to my chest...but while I didn't feel all that great, I didn't feel bad enough to take time off from work; the worst symptoms lasted only 2 days, with mild symptoms for another 2... All the people who got the shots and got sick with the flu and stayed out of work for days on end, dragged themselves back in while still very sick and remained very sick for a good week or more after returning to work... So I have to wonder why the media is giving such a strong propaganda push to the flu shot this year, and why there is mysteriously no shortage this year when there have been shortages in all the past years...what did someone know 9 or more months ago?
