Hi!
We finally fixed the problem today and of course Tim was right -- it was
IRIX system bug that caused the crashes, not the DBD::Oracle fault by no
means. After a long and winding debugging session with SGI support
people they finally sent us another IRIX patch, after applying which all
of DBD tests completed without a hitch.
Thanks everybody for help and special thankyou to Tim for encouraging
comments! I really needed that to promote our system administrator to
keep a hard line in his talks with SGI support :).
As a side effect I can confirm now that DBD::Oracle client works
perfectly well with Oracle 8.1.7 (64-bit) when built as an n32 IRIX
binary. Also, we have tested the updated SQLLoader and it looks like the
annoying bug present in 8.1.6 have been fixed indeed.
