I've finally found the really correct solution:
To use type 5 keyboards, use "sun6". This even makes the Compose-key
and all those other special keys work.
This is coherent with base.xml's description of sun6:

<configItem>
<name>sun6</name>
<description>Sun Type 5/6</description>
<vendor>Sun Microsystems</vendor>
</configItem>
</model>
Looks like sun5 support was merged into sun6 and sun5 simply
abandoned.
