Comments/Problems:
The install went very well, however I find the partioning tool to be
lacking in help and the layout to be slightly confusing. For example I
Spent the better part of 2 hours trying to make a logical volume. I
finally succeded no thanks to the counter intutive partman. I had never
done this type of partion before and partman was very confusing. I feel
a great effort should be expended to make partman friendly to families
and grandparents because with the increasing size of hard disk and their
cheapness people will be constantly adding hard drives in the future and
LVM's are the future of disk storage in my opinion. My video card was
never recognized untill I installed the Nvidia drivers. My video card
is a BFG 6600GT Which has been out now for a while and to not have it
detected is upsetting. It should not take more than a month after a
piece of hardware is released before a driver for debian is also
released, my opinion. I'm talking about open source drivers of course.
My Envision En-710e 17" CRT display has now been out for quite some
time now and that was also not detected, however I got it to work
finally. I am very disapointed to say the least with video card &
monitor detection. But for me this would be nitpicking. I have an
HDTV3000 tv tuner card that was detected as a multimedia card but alas
there is no driver for Debian 2.6.8 and for me to make it work is well
beyond my skills and this is a Linux hardware company! News flash Linux
hardware not native to Debian GNU/Linux 3.1r0 satire:). Shit, $170 down
the drain:( Oh well maybe next release please.
<PLease for the love of God make Partman & LVM a hell of a lot easer to
use please. Yeah i'm begging. Overall the install was more enjoyable
than installing windows seriously! In windows the actual install
continues for days what with fixing all the little things here and
there. Debian by contrast is super fast and simple. Except for the
pesky video, monitor section. I chose Debian NOT for technological or
technical reasons but for philosophical reasons I.E. software in the
public intrest etc. Please understand that not all users are skilled in
installing some are just ordinary blokes who come to Debian by way of
moral reasons. Finally I would like to say thank you to all the Debian
developers and maintainers and volunteers who give us an operating
system that gives us moral peace of mind and a guilt free conscience.
Thank you. Do real human beings actually read these parts? >
