I guess this is the same bug as the one that hit me with the the lbt package. Switching from -O3 to -O2 on m86k worked around the problem for me.
I also reported it to gcc upstream http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=23160 the gcc people answered that it is not reproducible on gcc 4.1.0 so they suppose it is fixed in 4.1.
