Package: gcc-11-base Version: 11.2.0-3 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable
Hello! During today's upgrade, apt-listbugs[^NOTE] warned me that upgrading libc6 (2.31-13 -> 2.31-17) would produce sig ILL on Geode LX i386 CPUs. See bug [#993162]. Since I have a Geode LX based box (a Soekris net5501), I decided to pin libc6 to version 2.31-13, in order to avoid issues, while waiting for a fixed version of libc6 to migrate to Debian testing (bookworm). Despite this, I began to see sig ILL (for instance, the smartd daemon could not be restarted), after the upgrade. Some tests revealed that these issues were caused by the upgrades of libstdc++6, libgcc-s1, and libgomp1 (10.2.1-6->11.2.0-3), allowed by the new installation of gcc-11-base. Downgrading those three packages and removing gcc-11-base seems to avoid the sig ILL issues. I am therefore filing this bug report against gcc-11-base, as a courtesy to other apt-listbugs users (who will thus be warned about the need to avoid installing gcc-11-base on Geode LX systems). Please do not close, reassign, or downgrade the severity of this bug report, until a proper fix is in place in libc6 and its effects have propagated to binary packages generated from gcc-11. Feel free to block this bug report by 993162, if appropriate. Thanks for your understanding and patience! [^NOTE]: for the record, I am the current maintainer of apt-listbugs and, yes, that package is useful to me as well (of course!)
