You probably have some kind of ld.script thingy somewhere, hopefully, if not you need to create a new one. This one has a .sdata entry, and you need to put a _SDA_BASE_ tag before it, like : _SDA_BASE_ = .; *(.sdata) not sure how to do it if you don't have a separate ldscript though, and you probably need to write a ld.script yourself to solve it. Now, this may also be a bug in binutils, which is currently some somewhat problematic CVS snapshot, so you may want to file a bug report against it.
