Also, if your loop is taking a long time then you might want to add some code to update the form, especially if you are using a progress bar or something. 
You could use
UpdateWindow(Handle); //just updates the screen
or
Application.ProcessMessages; //will update the screen and handle any button clicks or key presses.

What does the line
Edit1.Text(Integer); mean?

I am importing data from a PostgreSQL database and processing the information one row at a time. It works quite well as far as I have gone. I want to control the process by taking the count of the rows left unprocessed (greater than zero) before importing the next row.
