This is very confusing:
- the stock os has an application accessed by dialing *983*0# where among 
others you can test/calibrate sensors, after calibrating the proximity sensor 
it works as expected on stock OS but when upgrading to v1.2 that app is not 
available anymore for mysterious reasons and the phone goes to sleep while on 
call.
- just checked my Huawei g300 with v1.3 on it and the sensor works fine without 
any calibration stuff.
Go figure..
