In the course of testing the permission-service functionality, the "runSync"
call at line 293 does not return a map; instead an exception is thrown and
processing continues. Down below the result map is referenced and an exception
is thrown from that.
A look at ServiceEventHandler shows that it has a test for the case of result
map being null and adding such a fix to this case seems to work.
